THE UNDENIABLE TALENT THAT IS...ELAINE
In the current climate of music it is very rare for me to stumble onto a brand new artist and immediately be converted into a fan, from the first song I heard from Elaine I knew that this is something special. In my humble opinion Elaine's 7 track EP ''Elements'' is the best R&B project to come out of South Africa in a very long time and 2020 is looking out to be the year she blows the rest of the world away.
I remember when I first found out about Elaine, I was in Cape Town and a couple of friends were talking about this new R&B act who everyone was talking about on the twitter streets, everyone was going crazy over her music. I was very skeptical about the whole thing, in my head i'm like she must be an industry plant (An industry plant is someone who already has label backing or has been groomed by A&R's or label execs, but presents themselves as an independent up and comer)...who just drops a project and blows up and gets a million streams on Apple music and no one knows who you are, no video no hit single no big feature...who is Elaine and how did she just capture all of our attention so easily.
Two weeks later after letting the hype die down I finally put on ''Elements'' so I can really listen to the project without external influences and as soon as I played the first track I knew that this is special. The production value was world class and as soon as she stared singing I was like ''ohh man this is the real deal''. Such clarity and such focus...it blew me away, if I didn't already know that she was from Pretoria South Africa I would have never guessed it.Ok let me put it like this if Drake heard her project she would most definetly be on the first flight to Calabasas to go and write him some new music.
Elaine sat down with the good people at HYPE magazine and explained that :
''Elements is about love. All types of love. All the different elements and emotions that it comes with. I wanted to highlight the fact that love comes in all forms, and there’s no formula to it. It’s not all roses. It gets tough sometimes. And not all types of love are romantic. Love is universal''.
Trust me if you haven't streamed our downloaded the project you are missing out on some of the best R&B to come out this year.
