THE KING OF PODCASTING MAC G LANDS A NEW DEAL WITH STUDIO 88
The number one podcast in the country keeps rising...
The first episode of ''Podcast & Chill with MacG'' was uploaded on the 18th of July 2018 and in the space of 2 years MacG has created the number one podcast in South Africa. What MacG, Sol Phenduka and Ghost lady have managed to create a cult following for the podcast and have single handedly helped the podcast space in the country become a viable career.
He started this podcast at a time when Podcasting in South Africa was still a very small and niche part of the content space. It wasn't paying and only a hand full of people even had relatively known podcasts. The big corporates were not trying to invest in a space that didn't have big numbers which is understandable but MacG changed all of that. The thing that really set MacG apart from the rest was his consistency, he has put out 227 episodes over the last 2 years and this has helped him carve out his space as the king of Podcasting. He has the ability to make all of his guests feel like they are at home on his podcast, the conversations are real and authentic and that is why people gravitate to the podcast. When he partnered up with Old Mutual this was a big moment for the podcasting space, finally a big corporation had partnered with a podcast. The two parted ways when they aired an episode which was slammed by the LGBTQI community for hateful transphobic comments. In the episode of 'Podcast and Chill with MacG and co-host Sol Phenduka are engaged in a discussion about public figures that allegedly dated trans women. They used this as a teaching point and brought Yaya Mavundla a transgender activist on the show but it was too late, the damage had already been done and Old Mutual company cut ties with the podcast. This is the moment everyone saw how unstoppable the platform MacG had created, they continued dropping new episodes without the sponsors and less than a month later he has just secured a new deal.
The Mac G Podcast has managed to secure a new deal with the retail giant Studio 88, they will be coming on as new partners for the podcast. His channel is currently getting 600 average daily subscribers and over the last 30 days a boost of 19k new subscribers giving him a current total of 129'000 subcribers. This is a huge moment for the podcasting space and from us here at The Gold Axis we applaud MacG and his team and can't wait to see where he takes it.
