LUPITA NYONG'O LEARNS IGBO FOR NEW ROLE
Gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o lands role in an HBO max limited series called "Americanah" based on a book by decorated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and to top it all one of the producers of the series is Danai Gurira. Yes! It's an African Queen affair. The series will also cast Zackary Momoh, Corey Hawkins and Uzo Aduba.
Americanah is a 2013 novel for which Adichie won the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Fiction award. The book tells the story of a certain Ifemelu, who immigrates to the United States to attend university. In the book Ifemelu's life is traced in both countries, including her love story with high school classmate Obinze(Momoh) and the man who falls in love with her in America, professor Blaine( Hawkins).
Lupita is currently in Nigeria learning how to speak Igbo and pidgin English, familiarizing herself with the Nigerian environment and Igbo culture. The Kenyan-mexican actress is highly trusted by Chimamanda to bring Ifemelu to life. At a private reception where Adichie hosted Lupita and many other Nigerian celebrities in Lagos State, she said " Americanah is my baby and I'm happy to leave my baby in Lupita's care."
Nyong'o is brave for taking this role, learning a whole new language for a role shows her determination and her sky high acting skills. Big ups to her!!
The dates of the series have not been released yet but i believe it will be a must watch.
